1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

    A. Delivery Requirements: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers, and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name and manufacturer.

    B. Storage and Handling Requirements:

        a. Keep materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened containers, and packaging until installation.

        b. Store materials in clean, dry area indoors.

        c. Keep materials from freezing.

        d. Protect materials during storage, handling, and installation to prevent damage.

2.2 AIR DUCT SILENCERS

    A. Air Duct Noise Silencer: LD Silencer Series

        a. All silencers shall meet manufacturer’s published performance data.

            i. According to ASTM E477

        b. Provided the sound attenuation is matched or exceeded, the contractor may convert any or all double wall or sound lined duct work to silencers.

    B. Materials

        a. Outer Shell: G-90 galvanized steel

            i. In accordance with ASTM A-653 and A-924.

            ii. By contract, can be specified using stainless steel type 304 or type 316 outer shell.

                1. In accordance with ASTM A-240.

            iii. Inner Liner: Perforated, with 1/8” perforations on ¼” staggered centers.

                1. Overall open area of 23%.

            iv. Fiber retention fabric: 0.008” thick, 15.6 lb/ft3 density with an air permeability rate of 9.2 ft3/ft2 · s.

    C. Construction

        a. Straight Silencers: Inner and outer shells shall be spiral lockseam sheet metal construction.

            i. Fiber retention system: Non-woven polyester fabric

            ii. Filler Material: Inorganic glass fiber.

PART 3. EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

    A. Examine areas to receive LD Silencers.

    B. Notify Architect of conditions that would adversely affect installation or subsequent use.

    C. Do not begin installation until unacceptable conditions are corrected.

 

3.2 PREPARATION

    A. Prepare surfaces where LD Silencers are to be installed using methods recommended by the manufacturer.

 

3.3 INSTALLATION

    A. Install LD Silencers in accordance with approved submittals and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.

    B. For maximum effectiveness, install silence immediately behind a fan or bend.

 

3.4 PROTECTION

    A. Protect LD Silencers from damage during construction.
